| Hainan University Hainan
University is new comprehensive school of higher learning
officially established with the approval by the Ministry of
Education on August 14th, 2007 of the merger of the former South
China University of Tropical Agriculture, SCUTA and the former
Hainan University. It is a key university of Hainan Province and
is jointly supported by the Ministry of Education and the Hainan
Provincial Government. The former South China University of
Tropical Agriculture (its forerunner being South China Institute
of Tropical Crops), set up in 1958 by the central government to
break the blockage and embargo of natural rubber imposed by
foreign powers, specialized in rubber and tropical agriculture,
and was the sole school in Hainan to run the State Key
Disciplines and doctoral programs, which worked closely with
China Academy of Tropical Agriculture founded in 1954 (formerly
South China Academy of Tropical Crops) to have won over 900
education and scientific research awards,
including an Invention Award
(first-class), Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards
(first- and second- class), and an Education Achievement Award
(second-class) at the state level. |
